Haydn: Trio in A Hob XV/18
Beethoven: Trio in B flat Op 97 ‘Archduke’
Martin formed the Roscoe Trio with Fenella Humphreys and Jessica Burroughs in 2018 and here they bring a programme of trios from two great composers. Haydn’s good-natured music, written in London, sparkles and dances, with elegance and infusions of gypsy music: Haydn was in his sixties when he wrote this but the music retains an energy and wit from his younger days.
Beethoven’s Archduke Trio conversely was written in his early forties but hints at the profundity of his later works: there is a timelessness and spaciousness in its beauty, but also a grandeur and virtuosity throughout.
