Our two festival organists and three resident festival organ students explore chorale preludes, from Bach to the present day, including New Paths’ first commission. Written for specific liturgical use, these pieces are richly inventive and beautiful, sure to provide a moment of reflection in the atmospheric late-night space of the Minster.
Several works in the programme are part of The Orgelbüchlein Project, a major international composition project curated by William Whitehead to complete J S Bach’s Orgelbüchlein (Little Organ Book). The newest of these is the world première of Grayston Ives’ addition to the project, our newly commissioned setting of Es steh’n vor Gottes Thron.
