Listeners may have heard poet Kate Wakeling reading her poetry on Radio 3’s Breakfast Show this morning (catch up here at 01:24:42). We can’t wait to welcome Kate to Beverley on Spring Day to speak about her writing, and especially about creating the vivid texts for the song cycle Everything Grows Extravagantly.

Marcus and Libby’s Winterreise in 2019 was a festival highlight for many. Their premiere of Everything Grows Extravagantly in Oxford was awarded five stars in The Times, and picked by that paper as a highlight of 2021.

Don’t miss the chance to hear this colourful, lyrical piece as it lands in Beverley, alongside a programme of Finzi, Quilter, Schumann and Liszt. Inspired by Oxford’s Botanic Gardens, and the range of plantlife there, the event is definitely one for all green-fingered types!

“…Rarely have I heard a new vocal excursion into nature’s realm that satisfies on so many levels — musical, verbal, emotional and philosophical — as Everything Grows Extravagantly, a song cycle from the composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad and the poet Kate Wakeling…” (★★★★★ Richard Morrison, The Times)
