New Paths is thrilled that soprano Caroline MacPhie is participating in the 2018 festival.  Described as a singer with ‘flair, style and imagination’ (The Telegraph), Caroline is a versatile artist, performing in repertoire from Monteverdi to Max Richter with companies such as Opéra de Lyon, Royal Opera House, Opera North and Scottish Opera.  A committed recitalist, Caroline sings an array of music across a number of concerts in the festival, including:

  • in Stories and Sagas on Thursday 5th April – King Harald’s Saga by Judith Weir and Scena di Berenice by Haydn;
  • in Larkin’ About on Thursday 5th April – Five Larkin Songs by Huw Watkins; and
  • in A Maiden’s Garland on Friday 6th April – A Travelling Spirit by Nicola LeFanu, Ophelia’s Song by Elizabeth Maconchy and Two Shakespeare Songs by Cheryl Frances-Hoad.

Caroline’s acclaimed 2014 album ‘Love said to me….’ included the premiere recording of the songs by Cheryl Frances-Hoad (who will also be at the festival for Composers in Conversation).  It also included the Maconchy.  Hear her beautiful performance of Ophelia’s Song here:
